ABOUT GEORGE
Born in 1992, George grew up in a family of painters near Bristol where he found a love for the outdoors and all things creative, he began to develop his own painting practice while studying at Falmouth University then the University of Brighton.
Wanting to guarantee time for his practice and bypass the financial pressure which typically haunts young artists he created the Boon shortly after graduating, a mobile studio and home in a 30ft removals truck. The truck was toured around France and Spain for several years with fellow painter Nettle Grellier, the resulting works were exhibited in Barcelona. The pair settled at a forgotten farm near Granada (Es) for a year where they built studios and formed an affordable residency for other young artists to attend and focus on their practice.
Development of a severe auto-immune disease brought George back to the uk where he spent several more years trying to get a hold of the illness whilst maintaining a painting practice however possible. Now residing in Cornwall he recently constructed a unique painting studio within an old tractor shed at Trevone Quarry- a small creative community based around an old granite quarry near Falmouth.
George was the youngest artist to be included in the 2016 john moores Painting prize and more recently has shown with Unit london, Delphian gallery and a sell out solo with Galerie Dessers (Belgium).
Spending much of the past few years struggling with an auto-immune disease has rendered me feeling very bad a large amount of the time. As a result, for long periods my practice became the main channel through which I felt I could connect physically with the world, and my subject matter became the vital source of that feel good energy you get from all sorts of things if you are willingly receptive. People are often more absorbent of this sort of energy when compromised physically or mentally, I think there is more potential for effect.
